In late July, the Newport Show returns to Newport, Rhode Island, to continue its mission to showcase high-caliber antiques, art and objects, while also benefitting local charities. In addition, this year’s event has been scheduled the weekend after the Nantucket Show, to maximize opportunities for collectors of fine and decorative art, and Americana memorablia.

“This year, we have our usual mix of dealers offering fine and contemporary American, English and French art; American, English and French furniture, fine jewelry, garden antiques and nautical works of art; English and Chinese porcelain; Japanese and Chinese works of art, rare prints, antique oriental rugs, rare books, Tiffany works of art, antique wicker and much more,” notes show manager, Diana H. Bittel.

The 2025 edition offers quite the lineup of exhibitors, including Gladwell & Patterson, Find Weatherly, Lillian Nassau, Arader Galleries, Roberto Freitas, Yew Tree House, Guarisco Gallery, Lotus Gallery, Paul Madden Antiques, David Brooker Fine Art, and many more.

A returning exhibitor, Rehs Galleries, will have two booths at the show, one featuring historic works, and a larger booth featuring more contemporary artists.

Martha Walter (1875-1976), Summer Afternoon – Tuck’s Point. Oil on canvas, 24 x 30 in. Framed dimensions: 31 x 37 in., signed; also signed and titled on the reverse. Courtesy of Rehs Galleries, Inc.

Historic highlights include Martha Walter’s (1875-1976) Summer Afternoon – Tuck’s Point. “[This piece] is a luminous celebration of light, leisure and the legacy of one of America’s most influential female artists,” says gallery owner Howard Rehs. “This exceptional 24-by-30-inch oil on canvas transports the viewer to the tranquil shores of Tuck’s Point, [found] in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts. With sunlight filtering through the coastal air and figures gently immersed in the moment, Walter captures a scene that feels both intimate and expansive.”

Reh’s continues, “Tuck’s Point, nestled in the artistically rich Cape Ann region, became a favored location for painters returning from Europe. These artists, including Walter, brought modernist ideas with them, blending them with distinctly American themes and landscapes. In this painting, her brushwork is fluid and light, her palette sun-washed and warm. She doesn’t just depict a place; she captures a feeling. The result is a work that resonates with timeless charm and historical significance.”

Arthur Watson Sparks (1870-1919), A Bright Day at Martigues, ca. 1908. Oil on canvas, 25 x 30 in. Courtesy of Garvey Rita Art & Antiques.

Maurice Prendergast (1858–1924), Children on the beach at Saint-Malo, 1907. Watercolor on paper, 13 x 14 in. Framed dimensions: 21 x 22 in., signed (lower left). Courtesy of Leighton Fine Art.

Other noteworthy vendors are Leighton Fine Art, based in England, presenting historic highlights like Maurice Prendergast’s (1858-1924) Children on the beach at Saint-Malo, 1907—acquired from the artist’s family, while another version of the painting resides at the Baltimore Museum of Art; and Garvey Rita Art & Antiques, displaying works like Arthur Watson Sparks’ (1870-1919) nautical scene, A Bright Day at Martigues, circa 1908.

Bittel adds that, “In a time when there are not so many important shows still left in this business, the Newport Show [is still significant], and what these dealers bring to our summer show is top quality and impressive.”

The 2025 event opens on July 25 with the Gala Preview Party, from 6 to 9 p.m., and the event will remain open through July 27. For details and ticket information, visit www.thenewportshow.com. —
