The Modernist Perspective

Broadly speaking, the modernist movement was a response to major transformations in Western society, including a newly emerging industrial world, urbanization, technology and war. The American art world’s rejection of what came before turned away from objective painting and sculpture and splintered into modernist movements such as impressionism, Fauvism, cubism, precisionism, futurism, expressionism, dada, surrealism, abstract expressionism and Pop Art. This issue will take a deep dive into these movements, as well as highlight auctions, galleries and museums showcasing the art of these genres.
