Christie’s 20/21 Marquee Week consists of a series of modern and contemporary art sales held each May and November featuring the most illustrious private collections of European and American artwork. Headlined by the 20th Century Evening Sale and the 21st Century Evening Sale, the 2026 fall auctions take place in New York from November 17 through 20. Collectively, they bring together works by Alberto Giacometti, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Alexander Calder, Pablo Picasso, Cornelis van Haarlem and others. Four private collections anchor this edition of Marquee Week: the Collection of Clive Davis, the Antonio Homem Sonnabend Collection, Herbert Lust: Collector, Scholar, Friend; and Heroes & Lovers: Property of a Distinguished Collector

Frank Stella (1936-2024), Les Indes Galantes, 1961. Alkyd on canvas, 71½ x 71½ in. Estimate: $7/10 million
Eight artworks from the collection of pioneering record executive Clive Davis will headline the 20th Century Evening Sale on November 17. Additional works from the collection will appear in the Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale on November 20.
“Largely unknown until now, Mr. Davis brought the same approach to discovering and fostering musical talent to the acquisition of visual artworks for his own personal collection from leading abstractionists to masters of Pop portraiture to icons of Neo-Expressionism,” notes a Christie’s representative. “His collection is a heartfelt symposium of musical and rhythmic works by the best artists of the post-war and contemporary era, with masterpieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Fernando Botero, Jean Dubuffet, David Hockney, Hans Hofmann, Alex Katz, Joan Mitchell, Frank Stella, Andy Warhol, and more.” Collectively, the artworks on offer are expected to realize more than $35 million.

Robert Indiana (1928-2018), LOVE Wall, 1968. Oil on canvas in four parts, each: 12 x 12 in., 24 x 24 in. Stenciled with the artist’s initials ‘RI’ on the reverse of the upper right canvas; stenciled with the date ‘68” on the reverse of the upper left canvas. Estimate: $800,000 to $1.2 million
Other major artworks debuting in the 20th Century Evening Sale hail from the Herbert Lust Collection, led by Giacometti’s masterpiece Figure, demie grandeur (no. 2), one of the earlist known full standing bronzes from the post-war period, estimated at $20 to $30 million. Other highlights include Frank Stella’s 1962 painting Les Indes Galantes, which has not appeared at auction in nearly 25 years. Works by Calder, Yves Tanguy, Roberto Matta, Sol Lewitt and Robert Indiana will also be on offer, followed by subsequent sales from the collection taking place in New York, London and Paris. In total, the Lust collection is poised to garner in excess of $50 million.

Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Aretha Franklin, ca. 1986. Estimate: $2/3 million
Presented in the 20th and 21st Century Art auctions, works in the Heroes & Lovers private collection span the Renaissance to the 20th century, including four paintings by Pablo Picasso, a pastel by Edouard Manet and works by Cornelis van Haarlem and Tilman Riemenschneider. “Across themes of passion, valor, mythology, devotion and the human figure, these works reveal how artists separated by centuries returned to the same enduring questions of beauty, power and love,” explains Christie’s. “Together, they offer a compelling exploration of the timeless dialogue that connects the great masters of art history.”

Alexander Calder (1898-1976), Pomegranate Pods, 1946. Oil on canvas, 30 x 30 in., signed ‘Calder’ lower right. Estimate: $500/700,000 All images courtesy CHRISTIE’S IMAGES LTD. 2026
