After leading the Yale University Art Gallery as its director since 2018, Stephanie Wiles has announced her retirement, effective in spring 2027. “[Wiles has] strengthened the gallery’s role as a preeminent center for research, scholarship and public engagement,” Yale University president Maurie McInnis and provost Scott Strobel said in a joint statement to the Yale community.
The Baltimore Museum of Art has elected Elizabeth J. Himelfarb Hurwitz as its next board chair. A Baltimore native and longtime BMA volunteer, Hurwitz brings more than a decade of leadership experience to the position, having helped shape the museum’s strategic vision and community engagement efforts.
Jelena James is the new senior specialist and head of sale for Old Masters & 19th Century European Art at Freeman’s. In this role, James will lead the sourcing and execution of the department’s sales, further strengthening Freeman’s position in the European paintings market. James brings over two decades of experience in the international auction market, having held senior specialist positions at Bonhams Skinner and New Orleans Auction Galleries, where she served as director of fine art.—
