Welcome to the November/December issue of American Fine Art Magazine! This is a very important issue as it contains our special section dedicated to historic women artists. We will start with the cover art, The Red Maple at Lake George, by the one and only Georgia O’Keeffe. This painting is expected to sell for $10 to $15 million during Christie’s 20/21 Marquee Week in November. While her name and work are seen in museums and private collections, and studied in art school, her story is larger than life. A master modernist painter who lived until she was 98 years old, she won several of the most prestigious awards including the National Medal of Arts in 1985. And that is only the beginning. She was both a trailblazer and an advocate for other women artists. Having a Georgia O’Keeffe on your wall puts you into a unique category of collectors. And if you don’t have an O’Keeffe on your wall, maybe The Red Maple at Lake George will be your first!
The celebration of women artists has been growing for more than 100 years as we see more exhibitions dedicated to them, their artworks being coveted by collectors and, as noted above, auction results that only prove the point. Inside this issue we have features about major exhibitions about Emily Sargent and Grandma Moses, as well as gallery previews of less prominent names like Carolyn Mase and Frances Kornbluth, with all of the work available for purchase. The section features galleries and art dealers that showcase work on the market, including pieces by Mary Cassatt, Jessie Willcox Smith, Jane Freilicher, Gertrude Abercrombie, Ethel Myers, Lynne Mapp Drexler and even another O’Keeffe.
You can start exploring your next acquisition of an artwork by a woman artist on Page 36 and enjoy the 20 pages of related content that follows. It is absolutely compelling. Managing editor Sarah Gianelli did an amazing job.
We are your resource for museum-quality American historic art for sale with our coverage of gallery shows, auctions and events. Many of these pieces rarely appear on the market. They are special pieces of history and we celebrate them in each and every issue with the goal of connecting these timeless gems of art with collectors who know and appreciate their value, both aesthetically and as an investment. American Fine Art Magazine is here to guide you on your collecting journey!
Enjoy!
