John Moran Auctioneers’ Art of the American West sale will offer an expansive selection of fresh-to-market works from across the country, including paintings, Native American textiles and jewelry, as well as decorative arts—all of which capture the heart of the West.
Fine art in the upcoming sale will be represented by such artists as Joseph Henry Sharp, Maynard Dixon, John Audubon, Olaf Weighorst, and later works by Allan Houser, David Mann, Randy Van Beek, Ted DeGrazia and many more. Textiles will be presented in Navajo weavings, saddle blankets, wool tapestries and Navajo rugs. Decorative items include vases, bowls and bronze.

Among the highlights that collectors should be on the lookout for is an oil on canvas by Sharp titled Delphiniums, capturing a vase of flowers in pinks, purples and blues. The piece has a presale estimate of $10,000 to $15,000. In addition, Maynard Dixon’s 1916 gouache Hunter and Bear, in which man and beast engage in a potentially deadly confrontation, is expected to fetch between $6,000 and $8,000.
