August Online Auction
$2.7 million
Scottsdale Art Auction achieved record results during its August Online Auction with $2.7 million in total sales and a 96 percent sell-through rate out of the 426 lots on offer.
Leading the sale were two paintings by members of the Taos Society of Artists. Joseph Henry Sharp’s Before the Hunt, Glorieta Forest reached $111,150, against a presale estimate of $65,000 to $95,000; while Eanger Irving Couse’s Song of the Blue Aspens bested its $90,000 high estimate when it sold for $117,000. Another Couse painting, Turkey Hunter, sold for $70,200 against an estimate of $20,000 to $30,000.
A contemporary of the Taos Founders, artist Nicolai Fechin’s drawing of a young girl shattered its $9,000 high estimate when it sold for $46,800. Classic American paintings saw strong results as well, including Norman Rockwell’s Study for A Walk in the Country.

Summer Grandeur
Thomaston Place Auction Galleries realized impressive results in its Summer Grandeur sale, a four-day marathon auction that drew spirited competition from international bidders representing over 50 countries, with more than 1,500 lots.
The opening session achieved white-glove status with a 100 percent sell-through rate, setting a confident pace for the remainder of the sale. Fine art commanded the strongest results of the auction, with Andrew Wyeth’s contemplative watercolor Wishbone achieving $125,000, and his early work Threatening Sky achieving $106,250. His father N.C. Wyeth was equally celebrated, with Custer’s Last Stand reaching $90,000. Works by other Maine-connected artists also performed exceptionally well, including Dahlov Ipcar’s Antelope Mandala at $48,000, Imero Gobbato’s House on Cove at $45,000, and multiple works by Maurice “Jake” Day.
