Show organizers Joy and Jon Siegel, are gearing up for the charming event known as the Mid Atlantic Antique & Garden Festival. Hosted at the Aix La Chapelle Farm in Poolesville, Maryland, attendees will experience a “village-like” setting where they can browse around 60 dealers located in booths and around historical barns, buildings and show tents.
“The theme,” says Joy Siegel, “is to curate a diverse group of quality antique dealers that are in active pursuit of bringing fresh merchandise to exhibit. Our dealers come from over 18 states: The East Coast from Maine to Florida, and west to Kentucky. They bring both American and European material (furniture, fine art, Americana, folk art, garden décor) with an emphasis on the 18th and 19th century, plus a dealer or two that focus on quality, collectible mid-century modern.” In addition, the show has been expanded to include dealers in quality garden furnishings and horticultural material.

Dealers that exclusively feature fine art, in genres like portraits, still life and landscapes, include the following: Denise DeLaurentis, based in Connecticut, who specializes in fine art prints, engravings and watercolors; Georgia-based Mr. Chippendales Best, offering American and European paintings; Maine’s Bradbury Art & Antiques; Taylor Carlisle Galleries, located in Washington D.C., featuring engravings of botanicals, architecture and historical figures; and Paul Vandekar Antiques out of Pennsylvania, with works like Farmyard Scene with Chickens (1911) by Louis J. Cruise (1861-1945).

Roberto Freitas American Antiques and Decorative Arts, also in Connecticut, presents an impressive array of American paintings, like that of Pennsylvania impressionist and New Hope School painter, Walter Emerson Baum (1884-1956). His piece Summer Scene depicts the artist’s hometown in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. “True to his style, it is bold and vibrant and, through the artist’s eyes, documents a view of North Main Street leading down to Sellersville town, painted circa 1938 to 46,” says Siegel.
The Mid Atlantic Antique & Garden Festival is open April 26 and 27, and while enjoying amazing art and antiques, visitors are encouraged to try the wine café, food trucks, taproom and bakery. Visit the website for a site map, tickets and additional details. —
