Pennsylvania-based Freeman’s is the oldest auction house in the country, contributing to the auction world and art world for more than 216 years. As such, the auction house holds numerous sales of fine art and antiquities throughout the year, with something every month for collectors to dive into. This June, Freeman’s is holding the spring/summer edition of their American Art and Pennsylvania Impressionists sale. The auction includes fresh-to-market works by some of the biggest names in American art, including N.C. Wyeth, Daniel Garber, George William Sotter and Horace Pippin, to name a few.

Among the highlights in the upcoming sale is Garber’s forest scene In a Wood, which has a presale estimate of $200,000 to $300,000. The oil painting, dated November 1932, features an autumn scene with a soft quality of light, emblematic of the Pennsylvania impressionist style. Also included in the sale is Jetty Tree (est. $200/300,000), an oil on canvas by Wyeth painted around 1936. The focal point of the piece is a tree in the foreground, with a man readying a boat off to the side. A body of water in the backdrop fills the rest of the composition. Additionally, Pippin’s 1937 Portrait of Major-General Smedley D. Butler, U.S.M.C, Retired is expected to fetch $250,000 to $400,000; Martha Walter’s oil on canvas board Coney Island on a Grey Monday Morning has an estimate of $40,000 to $60,000; and Sotter’s oil painting Edward Redfield’s House is expected to bring in $70,000 to $100,000.
