The Winter Show made its long-awaited return to Park Avenue Armory for another successful fair showing the world’s best in art, antiques and design

The Winter Show, the country’s longest-running art, antiques and design fair, wrapped up its 69th edition this January, with a major return to its longtime home at the Park Avenue Armory in New York. The show featured more than 68 exhibitors across 10 countries showing blue chip paintings, sculpture, antiquities, furniture and more.

Among the fine art highlights in the 2023 show was Pennsylvania-based Avery Galleries, which sold a William Glackens oil from the 1920s titled Bouquet with Foxgloves, as well as William Trost Richards’ Salt Marshes, Atlantic City, from around 1886, and many others. “This was our first year exhibiting at The Winter Show and we were delighted by the success of our fair,” says Nicole Amoroso, managing director for Avery Galleries. “We met new clients and also reconnected with old friends. The consistent high traffic, knowledge of the people who attended, and high quality of material on the floor all made the show a great experience.”

John Singleton Copley (1737-1815), Portrait of Mary Montagu and Robert Copley, Her Brother, 1804. Oil on canvas, 101 x 74 in. Exhibitor: Hirschl & Adler Galleries.

Another first-time exhibitor, Dolan/Maxwell, saw notable success as well. The dealer, known internationally in the field of modern and contemporary visual art, placed a 1946 pensive cast bronze by Elizabeth Catlett with a Midwest museum in the range of $135,000 to $150,000.

“We were thrilled with the response from both our visitors and our dealers who were enthusiastic with the fair’s return to our long-time home at the Park Avenue Armory,” says Helen Allen, executive director of The Winter Show. Thanks to the hard work and collaboration of our exhibitors, supporters and partners, we were able to present a spectacular fair that supports and brings awareness to East Side House and the life-changing programs it provides.”

Robert Reid (1862-1929), In the Garden, ca. 1901. Oil on canvas, 30 x 27 in. Exhibitor: Debra Force Fine Art.

The 10-day fair serves as an annual benefit for East Side House Settlement, a community-based organization serving the Bronx and northern Manhattan.
