Louise Bourgeois: Paintings
The New Orleans Museum of Art presents the first comprehensive exhibition of paintings by iconic French-American artist Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010). The show surveys artwork she created between her arrival in New York in 1938 and her turn to sculpture in the late 1940s during the years of World War II. While the artist is best known today as a sculptor, it is in this early body of work that she formed her unique artistic voice. The exhibition, on view beginning September 9, sheds light on a lesser known part of Bourgeois’ career.
