After its postponement last year due to the pandemic, FOG Design+Art returns for a much anticipated in-person event. Held at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco, the fair opens with a Preview Gala on Wednesday, January 19, benefitting the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art’s education and exhibitions program. The fair, featuring 45 galleries that are among the global leaders in art and design, runs from January 20 to 23.FOG Design+Art 2020 on view at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco.

Galleries exhibiting at the 2022 fair are Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, Kasmin Gallery, Alexander Berggruen Gallery, Jenkins Johnson Gallery and many others.

Michael Rosenfeld Gallery will present a superb solo exhibition of collage works by Romare Bearden that focus on masterworks from the 1960s and 1970s. One of the highlights in this selection is La Primavera, painted by the artist in 1964, and one of the first mature collage works that “converges a meditation on Southern American life inflected with European Renaissance allegory,” according to the gallery. George Miyasaki (1935-2013), Roughcreek, 1984-85. © George Miyasaki; Courtesy the estate of George Miyasaki and RYAN LEE Gallery, New York.

FOG brings together a diverse collection of dealers from across America, as well as from Europe in both arenas of fine art and contemporary and 20th-century design,” says Douglas Durkijn, a member of the FOG steering committee that consists of individuals dedicated to championing art and design in the Bay Area.Romare Bearden (1911-1988), La Primavera, 1964. “We strive to bring together a diverse point of view in our presentation, as well as in our FOG Programs, which address timely discussions around technology and design, civic explorations in the world of architecture and design, and featured discussions with artists addressing the complexities of the day. Most of our dealers are from the United States, and clearly represent an American point of view in their programs. Our intent has also been to present not only the programs of large established multi-gallery dealers, but smaller gallerists as well, so that there is a real cross section of perspective,” says Durkin. “We are simply thrilled to open our doors again, to be a part of our city’s return to full openness, and to enliven that return with a week of creativity, education and joy.”A lively discussion takes place at the 2020 FOG Design+Art at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture.

Strict safety protocols will be followed for COVID-19, informed by the city of San Francisco, the state of California and the Center for Disease Control. —
