The highly anticipated fall American Art Week in New York City is fast approaching again. Amid all of the fine art events and auctions, collectors can also make their way toward Madison Avenue for the biannual Just Off Madison. And while there isn’t a formal event with open houses, hors d’oeuvres and other delights, Just Off Madison’s regular top dealers and galleries will be available by appointment with open arms during that week, November 16 to 22. Among these are Graham Shay 1857, Debra Force Fine Art, Avery Galleries, Kraushaar Galleries, Conner • Rosenkranz, Alexandre Gallery, Meredith Ward Fine Art, Betty Krulik Fine Art, Ltd. and more.Jefferson David Chalfant (1856-1931), An Inventory, 1893. “The Just Off Madison galleries are available to welcome our clients, colleagues and curators during their visit to New York American Art Week, or any time visitors are in our neighborhood,” says Betty Krulik of Betty Krulik Fine Art, Ltd. and organizer of the event. “Those dealers that are by appointment only will require a simple call or email to assure an opportunity for a visit. Those that are open to the public are free to accept visitors at any time...We look forward to an exciting sale season with the opportunity to see our friends in person.” Among the offerings from Betty Krulik are a circa 1946 Untitled abstract by Armenian-American artist Arshile Gorky.Everett Shinn (1876-1953), Young Woman on a staircase, sketch, ca. 1935. Debra Force Fine Art will be offering an 1893 oil on copper by Jefferson David Chalfant, among other treasures. “The gallery will feature 19th- and 20th-century paintings and works on paper by Thomas Hart Benton, Albert Bierstadt, Paul Cornoyer, Charles Demuth, George Henry Durrie, Robert Gwathmey, Rockwell Kent, Grandma Moses, Guy Pène du Bois, Maurice Brazil Prendergast, George Tooker, Max Weber, Julian Alden Weir and Guy Wiggins, among others,” says Bethany Dobson, director at Debra Force Fine Art. “We’re excited to see clients, curators and colleagues in person for those who are going to be in New York during American Art Week.” Arshile Gorky (1904-1948), Untitled, ca.1946. At the time of Just Off Madison, Graham Shay 1857 will be showing a selection of American art from the late 19th-century through 1980, including oil paintings, works on paper, bronze castings, marble and wood carvings, both traditional and modern in style. Among these is Everett Shinn’s Young Woman on a staircase, sketch from around 1935. “A typical subject for the artist, [this is] a scene featuring an elegant young woman in a dress gown, descending the highly decorative staircase of an opera hall or theater,” says Cameron M. Shay, director of Graham Shay 1857.
