Texas Art Auction
Recently, the popularity of Texas art has seen steady growth, and collectors interested in this subset of Western art will have ample opportunities to acquire new works during Heritage Auctions’ May 22 Texas Art Auction in Dallas. The sale provides a well-rounded grouping of artists including historic painters Robert William Wood, Robert Jenkins Onderdonk and his son, Julian Onderdonk.

“The Texas art market is very strong, and Texas Art auctions at Heritage Auctions are diverse events that capture the spirit of elite artists across the state,” says Atlee Phillips, the Heritage Auctions Texas art director. “Collectors can find a wide range of Texas art in this sale, from a range of artists from Texas Regionalists to Texas Abstract Expressionists.”

The Afternoon, by Robert Jenkins Onderdonk, is expected to garner eager bidding by collectors, estimated at $25,000 to $35,000. In addition, Late Afternoon Autumn, Staten Island, painted by Julian Onderdonk around 1904, is expected to sell at around $5,000 to $7,000. A deviation from the artist’s common theme of Texas bluebonnets, William A.
